A JEWELLERY LOVER'S GUIDE TO BUILDING THE PERFECT RING STACK

Jewellery has long been part of human civilisation, with the oldest known jewellery being dated as far back as 25,000 years ago. Over millennia and across diverse cultures, many aesthetics have come and gone, but some fundamentals of jewellery style have stuck around over long periods. A current trend that dates at least as far back as the 16th century is ring stacking. What is a ring stack, and how can you build your own? Here are some stacking ring tips that will help you create your own fashion-forward ring stacks.

WHAT IS A RING STACK?

If you're interested in enhancing and building looks with unique and beautiful jewellery, then building a set of stacking rings will be the perfect option for you to experiment and get creative with. A ring stack is simply a collection of multiple co-ordinated rings that are worn on one or more fingers at a time. This could mean four rings on one finger, eight rings spread over four fingers, or twenty rings across ten fingers. Because wearing and styling jewellery is an individual and creative experience, the way you wear your ring stack is entirely up to you. When it comes to stacking rings, the most common example is simply stacking an engagement ring with a wedding band. Sometimes these two rings are designed to complement each other in terms of shape, style or colour. If purchased at different times they may be quite different to each other, but still look great as a set. Though this is a very commonly seen version of ring stacking, it's far from the only type of ring stack. Stacking rings are a stylish and creative way to bring your jewellery ensembles to the next level.

HOW TO BUILD A RING STACK

Solid gold rings, handmade in Australia When building your ring stack, it's a good idea to establish your colour scheme. Do you have a ring that you wear every day, like an engagement ring or wedding band? Keep this in mind when selecting stacking rings, as you may want to choose rings that match or contrast with the ones you'll already be wearing. Also do you have a preferred metal colour that you wear or do you like to mix and match metals? Do you have a preferred colour or type of gemstone? What other colours will compliment it? Having a rough idea of the colours you want to be wearing on your fingers is a great starting point for your ring stack. Next, you want to establish your baseline ring stack, which you can mix and match together or add one or more colourful or more bold designs to. Starting off with thin, simple band rings that are intended for stacking is a perfect way to begin crafting your baseline ring stack. Take a look at our sets of solid gold stacking rings and silver stacking rings, along with our simple rose gold ring as potential starting points. If you prefer more minimalist and simple styling, then this might also be your finishing point for this particular stack. At Simone Walsh Jewellery, we offer a wide variety of rings in precious metals and gemstones that are specifically intended for stacking. Take a look at our full stacking ring options.

GETTING CREATIVE WITH YOUR RING STACK

Sterling silver rings Don't be afraid to have fun when designing your ring stack - or to change your stacks around regularly. Though a fully gold or fully silver ring stack is always going to be a classic look, don't be intimidated by mixing your metals. It can be a great way to get your ring stack to work with your other jewellery and gives you endless options in designing your daily looks. Once you've picked out the perfect baseline set of stacking rings, it's time to throw in some more interesting pieces. Picking out rings with larger stones or wider bands can be a great way to make your ring stack pop. You might choose one or several gemstone stacking rings to add pops of colour to your stack. Alternatively, find some statement rings or cocktail rings that really speak to your own personal style and add one or more of them to your ring stack.  Putting at least one ring on every finger can be a bold way to make your ring stack stand out. This option will be an eye-catching addition to your wardrobe. The trick to doing this is to have an array of ring sizes that fit your different fingers. Having a good collection of diverse rings in different sizes will always help you to be more creative with your ring stacks and allow you to change them up regularly.
